Six Wrestlers Drawn in Astin Drug Scandal

Dr. Phil Astin III who had been a personal physician to a number of wrestlers like Chris Benoit in Atlanta area, has been charged an accusation of 175 federal counts of illegal prescription abuse to 17 different patients of whom six are the people from professional world. Astin was popular in Atlanta for his prescription of anabolic steroids to the athletes.

According to the government, Astin had given Benoit ten months worth of steroids for a period of one year between May 2006 and May 2007 and that at a regular interval of three to four weeks. Astin also had a habit of prescribing drugs to the athletes even without examining them. The charge on him states that once a drug prescribed by him resulted in the death of a patient who was a former professional wrestler.

The 17 patients of Astin include two famous WWE stars Oscar Gutierrez, popularly known as Rey Mysterio and former WWE wrestler Mark Jindrak. On being asked about the charge during Fox News’ Red Eye program, Mysterio informed that he was prescribed pain medication for his six knee operations, by Astin but Mysterio denied the use of steroids ever.

The other patients involved in the charge are CMB and NEB, likely to be Christopher Michael Benoit and Nancy Elizabeth Benoit, MAB and RWH likely to be Marcus Alexander Bagwell and WWE World Tag Team Champion, Hardcore Holly, who’s real name is Robert William Howard. According to the charge, Jindrak and Mysterio regularly received large quantities of drugs.
