WWE Superstars Encourages Students to Read

It was when WWE Superstars entered the class room, with a purpose of encouraging the students to read, they shocked everyone in the room. “Oh my God! That’s MVP, of SmackDown,” whispered Hart, one of the amazed students. SmackDown’s highest-paid Superstar MVP entered the room with ECW Diva Layla by his side.

MVP, wearing one of his signatures Italian, tailor-made black suits, black Gucci shoes, black Cartier sunglasses, and Layla, former United States Champion and 2006 Diva Search winner, were at Robert F. Kennedy Elementary School with the purpose to encourage students to read. Students got the opportunity to interact with the stars and some students were chosen to read the passages with the star and the diva.

Layla asked if there was anyone who likes to dance with her. Layla was so impressed by Hart’s dance that she gave him a kiss on the cheeks. He said, “It’s hard for me to describe my feelings, because I’m so excited. It was just such a cool experience to dance with Layla”. Jeanette Patlan volunteered to read The Gingerbread Man by Jim Alesworth with her favorite Superstar and Diva. “I felt special being up there. It’s a moment I’ll never forget,” responded Patlan.

MVP and Layla admitted that the students also inspired them, though the mission was to encourage reading. Layla now wants to be the dance instructor. The experience took MVP back to his college days. “Being here helped me remember to be mindful of my younger audience and the type of influence I have on them. It’s not just 18-to-34-year-olds who love watching me. Everyone does”, MVP recalled. He feels, “Reading is important for everyone. Knowledge is power. You’ve got to be smart”.
